Logitech MX Master does not show up in list of Bluetooth devices

Macbook model: Macbook Pro 13-inch Mid-2012

OS version: OS X 10.11.6

I'm trying to connect a Logitech MX Master via Bluetooth to a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid-2012. However, the MX Master does not show up in the list of Bluetooth devices. I've made sure that MX Master's Bluetooth is functioning as it is visible on an iPhone.

Logitech specifies that the Macbook Pro mid-2012 should be Bluetooth smart ready (http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/articles/mx-master-immersion-guide#section7). However, upon following their setup instructions is not possible since the MX Master does not show up in the list of Bluetooth devices.

I've followed the workaround recommendations given in Bluetooth mouse not recognized El Capitan to no success.

Connection works fine with Unifying receiver.

Any help is appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)
